About this artwork
ERNESTO ARTIG
Line to Light, 2025
Mixed media on canvas, 100 × 100 cm
How do we unlearn what we’ve been taught to embody? In Line to Light, Ernesto Artig opens a visual inquiry into masculinity as performance, inheritance, and rupture.
A regiment of faceless male figures moves in rigid formation across a textured field marked by symbolic imprints—eyes, hands, coded gestures. Their repetition evokes the quiet force of conformity and the emotional… suppression expected of men within patriarchal systems. At the center, a vivid orange sphere disrupts the rhythm. It is both origin and rupture—the birth of toxicity, and the moment it begins to unravel.
Where dominance is mistaken for leadership and empathy for weakness—Line to Light reminds us that breaking formation is no longer just personal, but urgent. This piece both mourns the cost of toxic masculinity and calls for the courage to step out of line—toward light, toward selfhood, toward change, toward humanity.
As an abstract artist, I work from the inside out. My process is intuitive, raw, and rooted in emotional truth. Each painting begins as a conversation between parts of myself, between tension and release, between what is visible and what is felt. I use mixed media to layer meaning and texture, letting each piece evolve organically until it speaks with its own voice.
I explore the nuances of human experience through bold colour, dynamic brushwork, and fluid forms. My paintings aim to evoke emotional responses and invite introspection. Working under a pseudonym allows me to maintain greater creative freedom and openness in my work without being constrained by expectations or preconceptions about my real name.
At the core of my practice is a pursuit of authenticity. Each work is a spontaneous, personal expression, revealing my thoughts and feelings. I channel the energy of the subconscious directly onto the canvas without planning , as I believe this is essential to maintaining my connection with the raw authenticity of the creative process.
My paintings seek to balance moments of raw power with passages of contemplative calm, mirroring the ebb and flow of lived experience. This interplay aims to invite viewers to engage with the work on a deeply personal level.
Technically, I employ a range of techniques, from thick impasto to fluid gestures, to imbue my abstract forms with depth and emotional resonance.
My hope is that my work can forge meaningful connections with the viewer, challenging the observer to project their own experiences and interpretations onto the canvas.
But for me, the art experience shouldn’t stop at the canvas. That’s why I founded the Connecting Conditional Art Movement (CCAM) aiming to foster authentic human bonds, as I believe this is essential for nourishing the human condition. This philosophy is central to my artistic practice, which seeks to create an empathetic dialogue between artist and audience.
My goal is to craft works that resonate deeply, speaking directly to the heart and mind. Through these spontaneous, authentic explorations, I invite others to embark on journeys of self-discovery within my paintings.
