About this artwork
Unexpected things often happen. During a walk with my dog, I saw a rotten tree trunk beside the path. Crumbly pieces of decaying wood were crumbling from the center of the trunk. It looked as if a golden trickle was flowing from it. The dark afternoon atmosphere, combined with the "unusual" tree trunk, prompted me to recreate the scene and paint it in an Impressionist style. The depicted symbol of decaying nature became an iconic idealization of… a scene observed by chance.
Ernst Wieltschnig is a painter and draftsman who, after a scientific career, discovered his passion for classical and modern painting. He masters techniques from the Renaissance to Impressionism and today employs abstract expressionism with artist-grade pigments, acrylic binders, charcoal, and pastels. With sensitive color harmony and spontaneous composition, he breaks free from figurative constraints, capturing the moment of immediate expression. His works convey a great emotional intensity and invite the viewer to fully surrender to the perception of color and form.
