About this artwork
Jakaranda can be found almost everywhere in the town where I grew up during the spring season.
“Homesick” is part of a working series of memories from feelings and illusion in response to my experiences of searching for the hometown of mind. This series involves memories of feeling alienated and isolated from childhood. I felt alienated everywhere. I was born in Korea and grew up in Australia but I’ve never truly felt both countries like home.… I moved to U.A.E and travelled the world for five years but I failed to find the true hometown of mind. Perhaps the greatest feeling that is remained is homesickness even though the place of belonging does not exist.
“Homesick” was conceptualized from the sense of isolation that driven me into creating visual the visual world where I can be comfortable, happy, relaxed and feeling belonged. The homesickness is often related to nature involving the air, breeze, scent, temperature, seasonal flowers and plants.
« "The world we live in is not always beautiful. But we may all possess the dream of being beautiful, still and peaceful. My works reflect what I want to see and feel." »
