About this artwork
“The Beekeeper”, 24” x 30”, (2023-2026)
Mixed media work on gallery wrapped canvas
This painting has been with me for almost three years. I started it, stopped it, changed directions, repainted her face at least a dozen times... came back to it, layered over it, confronted it… and today I finished it. Much like the bees that inspired it, this painting developed slowly, collectively, instinctively. Season by season.
Bees are creators, builders,… protectors, pollinators, caretakers of life itself. Throughout history, bees have represented devotion, resilience, wisdom, abundance, and the interconnectedness of life. Without them, entire ecosystems collapse. As pollinators, they sustain life through quiet, essential labor. In many spiritual and mythological traditions, bees symbolize sacred knowledge and divine order.
The work combines painting, collage, texture, and dimensional mixed media elements to create a dreamlike space between nature and invention, softness and strength.
