About this artwork
Exhibited at the 2021 Florence Biennale, "De la volonté et du Chaos" profoundly questions the nature of human will, intertwining it with the concept of the 'Butterfly Effect.' This monumental composition is the culmination of a unique multidisciplinary collaboration between researchers, performance artists, photographers, and graphic designers, all brought together under the vision of painter Martínez Llaser.
At the center of the canvas, a giant… silk moth (Antheraea polyphemus) captures the protagonist, lifting him from the earth against his will, much like a bird of prey. This specific species was deliberately chosen: the large purple eyespots on its hindwings serve as a visual catalyst, inviting the viewer to ponder whether nature acts with a teleological purpose, or if such intricate designs are born of pure, random chaos.
Suspended in the void, the man’s terrified gaze captures the exact moment his perceived autonomy shatters. It is a powerful visual metaphor representi
« Reality is a wholeness. Fragmentation is an illusion. »
Ezequiel Martínez Llaser is an artist with a long international career. She was born in Argentina in 1981 and lives in Paris and Barcelona. She studied art and philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and Paris VIII, and participated in various workshops with leading artists on the current scene. Coming from a family of photographers, he felt increasingly drawn to the visual arts, which allowed him to convey his philosophical ideas. His art, primarily large-format surrealist oil paintings, is a deconstruction of reality and the values that dominate our society. His latest series, "Fragmentation and Totality," questions Western rationalism with vitalist philosophical concepts (Nietzsche and Bergson). He is influenced by the painters Dalí and Goya. He has held important exhibitions in Buenos Aires, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. In 2019 she participated in the Florence Biennale. Since 2022, his work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona.
