About this artwork
With the series IMPERMANENCE, I ask the question of appearance and self-image
Being a teenager in the 2020s, beyond the transition to adulthood, means being at the heart of fundamental changes: the relationship to one's own image and that of others. You have to manage your transformation while understanding this changing world.
I'm trying to capture this tension in a series of portraits of future influential women. They are between 13 and 16 years… old, but they could command an army or prevail in any negotiation.
I dress them in costumes I make from secondhand clothes and salvaged materials, stripping them of the artificial trappings of power. I immerse them in the atmosphere of Dutch painting, like Renaissance portraitists, creating a 21st-century portrait gallery of great women in their prime.
I invite them to find their inner voice and transform the world.
