In this photograph, taken in the room housing The Arnolfini Couple at the National Gallery in London, I have immortalised — unknowingly — a dialogue between time and perception.
The scene is crowded, but the figures appear blurred, doubled, like presences in transit between different timelines. It is a multiple exposure, but it seems like a passage: the visitors become shadows that cross multiple… dimensions, as if reality were bending and multiplying.
Only years later did I discover that at the center of the work there is a painting in which the mirror - the central element - does not reflect what is in front of it, but an elsewhere. It was then that I grasped the intuition hidden behind my shot: I was not documenting a visit to the museum, but visualizing the concept of time as a fluid space, where past, present and possibility coexist.
A fragment that suggests that perhaps, every observer is also observed, from another time.
Fabrizio Vinti, photographer and graduate of the Roberto Rossellini Cine-TV Institute, mainly uses analog. He stands out for an evocative and conceptual approach, characterized by the use of multiple exposures to create layered compositions that evoke memory and time. His photos fluctuate between alternative worlds, extrapolating fragments of reality to arouse emotions of suspense between what was and what could be.
