About this artwork
I took a telephoto zoom lens and, exceptionally, a tripod. The photo was taken from the terrace of the observatory, almost the only place where I could express the feeling inspired by Cézanne's painting, "Auvers, Panoramic View".
I photographed the city as I would have photographed the sea. I chose to include a large number of houses in my viewpoint. A row of buildings in the distance blocks the perspective and stops at the horizon, where the geometric… shape disappears.
Color then appears as in children's drawings: red here, brown there... The child goes beyond the lines when filling in the shapes. For me, that is precisely where the greatest beauty lies.
Fan Li, an impressionist photographer, paints with light: his camera becomes a brush, his breath, and his gesture. Using an original method developed since 2018, now protected by a patent application, he composes the image directly at the moment of capture, without retouching. In his works, sharpness gives way to sensation, and the image approaches painting. It is an invitation to see the world not as it is, but as it is felt.
