The man becomes melancholy when he understands that the time at his disposal is limited and the figure fixes the observer in a morbid way, shaking himself as not to accept what he has understood. Not accepting pain generates despair. The tangle of black signs gives life to the form.

Federica Frati is an emerging Italian painter and printmaker who has enjoyed extensive national exposure. Constant in her work are references to the sacred, expressed alongside ideas such as modern identity and the human soul. Frati uses tempera paint to follow in the footsteps of the medieval masters she admires, and switches from engraving to painting with expertise and flexibility.
