About this artwork
Medea is a monotype in color belonging to a series of recent production that investigates the theme of motherhood. Some works are in color while others are pervaded by the black of chalcographic ink and imprisoned in a grid of signs.
Contrary to the mother's commonplace as an overflowing figure of only love, the work instead wants to reflect on its whole nature, as a human being: the creative and destructive one. Generating life implies pain, renunciation,… alienation, suffering for mother and child in seeing their respective physical and psychic metamorphoses.

Federica Frati is an emerging Italian painter and printmaker who has enjoyed extensive national exposure. Constant in her work are references to the sacred, expressed alongside ideas such as modern identity and the human soul. Frati uses tempera paint to follow in the footsteps of the medieval masters she admires, and switches from engraving to painting with expertise and flexibility.
