The work is part of a broader research project conducted with Carmelo Rago, a colleague and companion who died prematurely, entirely focused on the manhole cover, understood as a piece of urban furniture and a simulacrum of contemporaneity. This "lid," positioned as a threshold between the surface world where human life unfolds and the underground world where the "biological systems" necessary for their functioning are concealed, simultaneously bears… witness to the place and time in which it is located. Using a spoon-printing technique derived from woodcuts, the overall research aims to create a sort of inventory of manhole covers, elevated to icons of the present, inviting us to be careful about what we step on.
The work “Dedalo” was printed in Rende and exhibited in 2008 in the exhibition “Archaeology of the present: the city under your feet” at the Museum of the Present in Rende (Cs).
Federica Marini, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, expresses her creativity through various mediums such as painting, sculpture, and collage. Eclecticism characterizes her artistic research: she adopts diverse techniques to meet the expressive needs of the moment, favoring an artisanal dimension in the development of her works. Her creations, often imbued with emotional lyricism and a critical perspective on the world, explore themes such as the condition of women, politics, philosophy, and the environment, prompting profound reflection on the human condition and the meaning of life.
