About this artwork
The main subject of the painting is the Blessing Christ by Raffaello Sanzio. As always happens in the artist's works, however, this Shining Jesus also has a particularity compared to the original. In fact, Felipe Cardena does not limit himself to mentioning the ancient, but reinterprets it, offering new meanings through small details inserted in the painting. Here then, in this case, the Christ of Cardena receives a strange stroboscopic “light” through…
the insertion of beads that unravel starting from the left eye. It is the metaphor of a mysterious "shining" (Shining), which in Stanley Kubrick's film is at the origin of the little protagonist's extrasensory faculties, which lead him to have dark visions. Even the Christ, then, thanks to a small trick and the allusive title, returns to be an icon of today, as a sort of very modern superhero who approaches his miraculous ability to grasp the past, present and future to the pop mythology of the contemporary.

« I would like to transform the chaos of the world into beauty, and the difficulty of living in eternal aesthetic joy. »
Felipe Cardena’s art has always been linked to the idea of sharing, relationships, and the transmission of knowledge. The flower is a recurring theme in all of his vibrant works, symbolizing the beauty and harmony of nature, life, and the world. Cardena describes flowers as the fantastical pattern on which he builds the geography of his universe. His artistic language is communicated through collage, with one central image that incorporates mythological heroes, divinities, and contemporary icons.
