About this artwork
This artwork is one of a series completed during the UK pandemic lockdown. Employing a grid structure as a basic compositional device allowed me the freedom to intuitively experiment and improvise with gestural brushwork, colour, tone and pattern. This is a complex process as in actuality there are twenty five mini paintings within a painting each of which has to work as an individual component whilst also integrating into the organic whole. There…
is much underpainting and constant revision until gradually the image begins to unify and the parts sing in harmony. In this particular image a network of free drip rivulets help to drag the component parts into a coherent visual whole.

« My working process is essentially an organic and intuitive investigation into the interactive dynamics between color, shape, pattern, and gesture. »
Felix Akulw is an artist based in the United Kingdom whose works have been exhibited in England and Wales. While his recent abstractions reflect the unrest and "winds of change" in our society, he endeavors to remain optimistic and not to lose sight of the essential joyfulness and beauty of our existential circumstances. Inspired by color-field painting, op art, and figuration, Akulw's vivid pieces are created with acrylics on canvas.
