About this artwork
Chess has very clear rules, it has a very defined board, what you can or cannot do, and yet it is still capable of filling you with surprises. It seems that between those black and white squares the nuances go unnoticed by most of us, as it happens with practically everything nowadays thanks to the polarization of opinions and media management. When I watched the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit" I fell in love with the subtle but intense performances,… the beautiful art direction, and the disruptiveness of its story. Seeing it, I saw my present style in one way or another and knew I had to. The handling of geometric figures that blend organically with their surroundings is for me something characteristic of my style, and also of this series, where the squares and the board are superimposed on situations that are not at all "conventional". . That said, just like Beth, I started to see squares and pieces everywhere.
Felix Zilinskas is an artist based in Spain whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in the United States. A large part of his work is inspired by music, as he is also a musician. Zilinskas enjoys unraveling the messages in song lyrics to "squeeze them to the fullest" by investigating and developing their strangest parts. For example, one of his series was inspired by the characters in Beatles songs. His vibrant pieces are created with acrylics.
