About this artwork
Mr. Kite is one of the characters that appears on The Beatles' Sgt Pepper Lonely Heart Club Band album. According to John Lennon himself, the lyrics are totally taken from a poster of a circus, in which they announced a show to benefit Mr. Comet (Mr. Kite). The artist was facing a moment of transition in which he practically had to flee from his native country (Venezuela) leaving everything behind, with the sole objective of providing a better future… for his family. Thus, between the insecurity and violence of a dictatorship, and the instability of a new country that was also facing a great economic crisis, he felt an immediate connection with this tightrope walker who, despite the risk on both sides, must focus on his future, always looking ahead. .
Felix Zilinskas is an artist based in Spain whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in the United States. A large part of his work is inspired by music, as he is also a musician. Zilinskas enjoys unraveling the messages in song lyrics to "squeeze them to the fullest" by investigating and developing their strangest parts. For example, one of his series was inspired by the characters in Beatles songs. His vibrant pieces are created with acrylics.
