About this artwork
With this painting I explore the beauty that often remains hidden beneath the surface. We usually see only a small part of someone’s true self.
I paint over parts of the face to symbolize the layers of personality and experiences that are concealed. Butterflies, birds, and fish represent the inner beauty and freedom that emerge as these layers are removed. This painting is created with acrylic paint. I used gold leaf to craft butterflies. It is… rich in brown tones, amber hues, and green. Composed of many layers, it is made with a lot of love. Perfect for any interior, but especially for spaces where earthy colors shine beautifully.

Femke Kock is an artist from the Netherlands. Just a few years ago, she left her steady job to fully dedicate herself to her career as an artist. In this short period, she has built a remarkable portfolio and won several awards. Her rendition of the Girl with a Pearl Earring was displayed in the Mauritshuis, and her works can be found in numerous private collections worldwide, from Tokyo to Paris and everywhere in between. She has also appeared on national television multiple times with her work. Femke Kock's pieces are regularly showcased at major art fairs and galleries, and she has had several notable solo exhibitions, such as at the observation deck of the Euromast in Rotterdam.
