About this artwork
This sculpture is made of marble, a static material. It's a challenge to make it smooth and fluid. The sides have the rough structure of the broken material. I like that, because you can see the lighting of the crystals. In the surface you see the structure of the stone file tool. In marble, the light/shadow gives an extra dimension to the sculpture. On top I painted a little green line.

« My abstract sculptures are not explicitly seductive. They do not tell a story, but rather evoke an atmosphere or association. »
Fieke de Roij is an established Dutch sculptor who has exhibited her work nationally. Stone sculpture is her greatest love, and the stone itself her primary source of inspiration; she collects them from the street, stores and as gifts before transforming them into works of art. Her finished pieces appear at once clear and abstract, retaining visible traces of the artist's process to allow for her personal aesthetic signature to be directly communicated.
