Walking The Shore, Freshwater East is an original oil painting inspired by the shifting light and expansive coastline of Pembrokeshire in West Wales.
I painted this lovely painting from a photograph I took while on the beach at Freshwater East just after Christmas this year. I have put in family member and my little dog to give the painting focus.
I was inspired by the colour of the rocks as they display many colours in the strata such as the pinks,… ochre and purples and this drew me to paint this part of the beach.
I used a palette knife to paint with and this enables me to get plenty of textures and depth in the rocks.
The figures in the painting were wearing dry robes so although the bright colours of the sky give the impression of warmth it was an extremely cold day.
I often use a magenta as an under painting as this brings warmth and energy into the work . It helps unify the colours and brings depth as layers build especially against greens in the landscape.
Fiona Jenkins, a retired nurse with decades of art class experience, uses pastels, oils, and mixed media, often experimenting with palette knives, brushes, and collage. Her loose contemporary Impressionist style combines abstract elements, exploring atmosphere and impression over detail, and emphasizes suggestion and emotional response. Her work radiates a profound sense of calm, inviting viewers to share in the tranquil beauty and emotional resonance she finds in nature and everyday surroundings.
