In the gallery, everything seems ready for the crowds: the illuminated windows, the hanging garlands, the red decorations that punctuate the perspective… and that red carpet stretching to the back like a promise of glamour. Yet, there is only one person, with their back turned, walking away.
It's this contrast that interests me: an almost theatrical setting, designed for the collective, inhabited by an ordinary figure simply going about their day.… By working with the symmetry of the architecture, the power of red, and the repetition of lights, I seek to transform this everyday scene into a moment of silent cinema, where each person can project their own story.
A little nod to the anonymous passerby you'll soon see on the big screen. Thank you.
Florent KOPP (FLK) - French photographer Winner of the Certificate of Artistic Merit - Luxembourg Art Prize 2025 (La Pinacothèque, Luxembourg). Will exhibit at the Carrousel du Louvre - Art Shopping (October 2026). I photograph the moment when one chooses to appear... or to withdraw. My practice explores the boundary between visibility and discretion in public space through simple gestures: a hand that rises, a back that turns away, a motionless presence in the middle of the flow. I compose with light, lines and voids to guide the gaze, then I leave a part open so that each person can invent their own story. My works belong to the series "The Invisible Within Sight," a black and white and color exploration of the micro-gestures that determine what we reveal or conceal from the gaze of others. Limited edition pigment prints, signed and numbered.
