About this artwork
“Sun and Shadow” Is Inspired by a Persian poem of Ahmad Kolivand:
In the light of day,
The laughter of the sun and the tears of shadows are evident.
Shadows are the reflection of beliefs,
Devoid of names, signs, and colors,
Free from the thoughts of being and going,
In harmony with the silence.
Love, beyond the shame of shadows, is beautiful,
But without the sun,
Shadows are meaningless.
The work begins with a smooth, lightly textured base layer… that prepares the surface without creating visible relief. This foundation is then gilded with gold leaf, forming the luminous metallic ground of the piece. The mandala and raised details are applied afterward using textured paste directly on the gold surface, creating depth and structure. Finally, the artwork is sealed with a protective gel varnish to preserve both the shine of the gold and the integrity of the textured patterns.
Forough Rahimi is a self-taught artist who masterfully combines ceramics, acrylics, and metallic powders, drawing from her deep fascination with Persian traditional patterns. Her signature style employs layered, three-dimensional textures crafted through modelling pastes, high-relief stencilling, palette knives, and custom stencils, blending ancient motifs with contemporary sensibilities. Forough’s art evokes a tactile invitation to explore memory, heritage, and enduring beauty—offering viewers a sense of tactile peace and connection to the enduring ‘truth’ that lies beneath the surface.
