A large staircase accompanies them, crowned with second-hand booksellers' boxes.
Opposite, on the Ile de la Cité side, the Pont Saint-Michel is beginning to catch the sun, but the large retaining walls and trees on the Quai du Marché Neuf are still in shadow.
