About this artwork
This painting depicts the path of transformation in life on several levels.
The moment when an important decision can change everything, the path that often begins in darkness can ultimately lead to personal fulfillment.
In this painting, too, the little girl with the light in her hand is a beacon of hope, courageously tackling the initially dark path, hampered by the stairs. The glowing yellow iris in the lower part of the picture symbolizes a… new beginning and entices with its radiance.
The upper part of the picture shows the already completed transformation, represented by the mermaid, who in human form moves toward the vanishing point, an imaginary door. The path there, a suggested staircase, is flooded with light and directed. The pot in the middle of the picture watches over this entire scene. It benevolently monitors the pictorial events and underscores the dreamlike, surreal atmosphere of the painting.
