Eastnor Dusk forms part of the ongoing hiraeth series, exploring memory, place, and return. It is inspired by a summer evening walk through Eastnor Deer Park, where a vivid pink sky settled over the landscape.
The painting centres on the challenge of translating fleeting, heightened moments of beauty, particularly the intensity of pink light at dusk, which can easily feel overstated if not handled with care. Here, a strong contrast between the deep,… dark land and a luminous sky is used to hold that balance.
Marble dust was introduced into the ground, creating a textured surface that softens transitions and allows the light to settle more naturally within the paint. The work moves beyond direct representation, seeking instead to capture the atmosphere and emotional resonance of a moment that is both striking and ephemeral.
