About this artwork
The “Hidden Cities” series by Francesco D'Adamo was started in 2016 and it's still in progress. These compositions are characterized by the use of large areas of erosion and fracture, obtained with a skilful use of painting materials. The overall structure is buried and re-emerged in a continuous process of redefinition of the visible layers. The Hidden Cities becomes here a metaphor for what finds its own form and identity in the encounter and confrontation…
with its own historical and temporal context. D'adamo here creates paintings far from being archaeological places, but in continuous evolution.

Seeking to create a wordless language through his art, he composes abstract paintings marked by broad, sweeping brush strokes, a highly pigmented colour palette and a soft musicality. D'Adamo draws inspiration from a range of artistic movements and figures including Informalism, Lyrical Abstraction and Willem De Kooning.
