About this artwork
Rhino horns, often torn from living animals, are sold in Southeast Asian countries as ingredients in miraculous cures for cancer, impotence or simply the flu, without any medical or scientific basis, since they are made of keratin, the same substance as our nails and hair.
Even today, most people in Vietnam or China believe that rhinoceros horn has beneficial properties for health, giving strength and vigor.
The work is a bronze rhinoceros horn… modelled at the base so that it can be ideally placed on the head and worn as if it were a magical headdress.
If on the one hand the work refers to an object with shamanic powers, on the other hand the title brings it back to the image of human stupidity, recalling a bump that appears when you hit your head with a blow.

Francesco Maluta is an Italian artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Albania and Austria. His artistic practice is mainly informed by the animal-human metaphor and the dynamics that occur in both nature and society. Maluta reveals these metaphors in the titles of his compositions. In his work, humans are never visible, it is through the attitudes and interactions between animals that his specific themes are conveyed.
