About this artwork

In crafting this piece, I chose oils to delve into the raw human experience, blending realism with a touch of the abstract. The central figure, shrouded in a hood, captures a contemplative solitude. I used a muted palette to evoke a feeling of introspection and the shadows to hint at deeper, perhaps unspoken, layers of emotion. This painting is an invitation to pause and reflect, bringing a meditative energy to any space it inhabits.

Dutch artist Francien Krieg skillfully captures the wisedom and beauty of the human form in her portraits. Favouring female nudes Krieg's naturalistic style provides the viewer with a truthful and often emotive portrayal of the ageing process. In her works, the women tell their stories through their ageing bodies and they have so much to tell and to teach us.
