About this artwork
The human face is a multi-layered surface. It not only expresses emotions but is also a visual construct that each viewer interprets differently. When I first saw this photograph, I focused only on the face. Later, when I spoke with the photographer and explained my intention, I discovered that the image was much wider, showing the entire body.
My reinterpretation uses an intense color palette, with that permanent violet that is now common in my… work and envelops almost everything, fragmenting light and shadow into an emotional kaleidoscope. The gaze remains the focus, but now it's a split, more abstract gaze that seeks to provoke that psychological interplay between what is seen and what is imagined.

« The art must be how to see a high-performance athlete play or a scientist talk about quantum physics and we know that not everyone can do it. »
Frank Arias is an artist based in Spain whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Cuba. He cites his sources of inspiration as originating from the great mystery of life outside of our planet. Arias is intrigued about the genesis of life and the possibility of civilizations that are more advanced than us. His figurative compositions teem with diverse characters and scenes that are not found in reality, portrayed with a hint of irony and satire.
