About this artwork
The back drop for his painting is sourced from a photograph showing the devastation through conflict of the city of Aleppo. The image of the woman is referenced from Alphonse Mucha "Woman in the Wilderness" as in the original work it symbolises the suffering of a nation. There is no salvation as the star depicts in Muchas version which has been replaced by a Black Cat to some a symbol of bad luck, and certainly what these people have had to endure.
