The image of the woman is referenced from Alphonse Mucha "Woman in the Wilderness" as in the original work it symbolises the suffering of a nation. There is no salvation as the star depicts in Muchas version which has been replaced by a Black Cat to some a symbol of bad luck, and certainly what these people have had to endure.
