About this artwork
“I wanted to know what happens to a hero when no one calls anymore – only wind.”
Rearing up, tamed and marked by the storm – this is how Marengo, Napoleon's famous warhorse, appears in this interpretation as a figure between heroism and exhaustion.
The dynamic pose points to greatness, glory, and departure – but at the same time, the bound limbs and the panicked look show that heroism is not an eternal line, but a fleeting moment in the face of… decay.
In a dramatic landscape, beneath a moving sky, the horse becomes the bearer of a surviving history. The inscription carved in stone points not only to remembrance, but to transfiguration.
“Marengo” is a painting about the underside of power – about the fatigue of myth, and the question of whether greatness without fear is even possible.
