About this artwork
The image from the "Forest Gang" series doesn't merely depict nature, but takes viewers beyond the act of seeing – into a mode of inner reflection, presence, and vastness. Alluding to "Shinrin Yoku," the Japanese practice of forest bathing, the interplay of light and leaf textures act as anchors to memories of beautiful forest experiences. In my immediate vicinity, the Helenental valley in Baden, wild garlic (also known colloquially as "Knofel")… grows in spring, its pungent aroma alone betraying its kinship with garlic. The beautiful, fresh spring leaves, combined with the white blossoms, create a uniquely refreshing meadow landscape, always nestled among the still-leafy trees. "Knofel" is used in savory dishes, including "Strudel," a classic of the local cuisine. Just like the inner enjoyment, the sight of the forest in this atmosphere is a delight and invites one to forest bathe in nature's cathedral.
Fritz Vogel is an Austrian painter and draftsman who works primarily with acrylics, pencil, and ink. His work is inspired by collaborations with other renowned artists, a deeply humane philosophy of life, and a technical and economic education. "A key concern in my art is to preserve, despite a recognizable style, the freedom of stylistic devices, painting techniques, and motifs, in the tradition of diversity held by artists like Picasso or Gerhard Richter. I reject pigeonholing and a primitive recognition factor in the form of self-copying. Those who engage with my paintings should first resonate with the work and only then realize that they are (once again) looking at a bird."
