About this artwork
A bird clutches its beak, having just made a regrettable joke. Its beak won't close: that's its least fault! The poor bird is filled with remorse! It holds the back of its head with one hand and its beak with the other (yes, it has hands!). Sitting on a rock, the guilty bird stares at the fox, to whom it has just described the poor quality of the cheese the fox proudly bought at the market. The fox is angry, and the bird is crestfallen.
