About this artwork
The site of Vardzia (ვარძია) in southern Georgia is rich in history. It comprises 300 caves connected on 19 levels, forming a significant cliffside cave city. Largely destroyed by an earthquake, it nevertheless allows visitors to wander through a complex network of structures including churches, pharmacies, a stable, numerous three-room houses, Queen Tamar's chamber, many staircases, and even a freshwater spring that ensured the city's self-sufficiency.…
