About this artwork
This work is drawn from my time living a couple of blocks from Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barabara, CA. Sunrise and sunset were a daily ritual of people gathering to watch the changing light, and how it fell on water, sand, and rock. Oil, oil stick, and charcoal on cradled wood panel (2.5" deep).

Gabe Davis (b. 1978) is a New England-based painter exploring abstract and landscape observations across both East and West coasts. Raised in Florida and Maine, he studied at MassArt in Boston and in Southern California, where the distinctive light and color palette continue to inform his paintings.
Working primarily in oil and acrylic on large surfaces, with smaller pieces in gouache and ink, Davis employs a discovery-driven approach that leaves room for expressive journeys across his canvases. His paintings blend landscape elements through layers and abstraction, capturing spaces both past and present.
