About this artwork
The sculptural wallpiece „Triptych“ wants to explore the relation between nature and culture. In western mainstream dialectic nature and culture are perceived to be in opposition to each other. However i see both inseparable, as culture would not be possible without the underlying fundament of nature, but is intrinsically nested into it. shaped our consciousness over a long period of evolutionary processes. The vertical lines form a grid that interacts with the organic, highly dynamic structure, suggesting the association with topographic renderings. The work consists of three panels of locally sourced maple wood that are carved in a hands-on process applying ancient woodworking tools and skills.

Gabriel Tarmassi is a sculptor and designer based in Germany whose pieces are largely influenced by natural surroundings, such as landscapes, dunes, and waves, as well as the dynamic nature of these structures. Tarmassi's works often question the relationship between humans and the environment. In his artistic process, he exclusively creates with wood, employing traditional woodworking tools and modern machinery.
