About this artwork
This wallpiece wants to explore the relation between nature and culture. In western mainstream dialectic nature and culture are perceived to be in opposition to eachother. However i see both inseperable, as culture would not be possible without the underliyng fundament of nature, but is intrinsicly nested into it. By interpretating natural shapes such as landscapes, dunes and waves or even the human body, i reflect the sourroundings that have shaped…
our consciousness over a long period of evolutionary processes. The vertical lines form a grid that abstracts the geomorphic structure, suggesting the association with topographic renderings.

Gabriel Tarmassi is a sculptor and designer based in Germany whose pieces are largely influenced by natural surroundings, such as landscapes, dunes, and waves, as well as the dynamic nature of these structures. Tarmassi's works often question the relationship between humans and the environment. In his artistic process, he exclusively creates with wood, employing traditional woodworking tools and modern machinery.
