About this artwork
Knight stars were only discovered in South America after the real Amaryllis and were assigned to the botanical genus Amaryllis because of their great similarities. This series of four watercolors reflects the life stages of this flower in Brazil. It was photographed almost every day and then divided into four stages and painted.
It is meant to remind us to live wisely, according to Psalm 90: "Lord, teach us to remember that we must die so that we… may become wise."

Gabriele Fuchs is a Germany-based artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Austria, Brazil, and Portugal. Inspired by the contemplation of nature and spirituality, her works are the result of deep reflection on a specific subject. Fuchs uses mathematical and calculated precision in her artistic process, based on Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Ratio, as well as Johannes Itten's color theory.
