About this artwork

There was a sensual silence, as well as a generous calm atmosphere, which by space and lightness of color and transparency is carried in. The permeable elements reveal the multi-layered depths to the underground.

Gabriele Middelmann, an award-winning painter and photographer, has exhibited her works in her native Germany, as well as in Belgium, the United States, Austria, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. The themes in her pieces delve into concepts of time, space, surface, depth and the traces we leave behind. Photography is the genesis for Middelmann’s painterly art, which she transforms into paintings through diverse materials such as paper, stone, powder, pigments and acrylics.
