About this artwork
In this work, two African children are in the foreground, which I deliberately kept in black and white. Their simple, graphic representation draws attention to their presence and gives them a timeless, symbolic effect.
Behind them I have inserted a large, exotic plant leaf from Belize. The bright green of the leaf creates a strong contrast to the monochrome depiction of the children and brings a lively, natural component to the image. It seems… as if nature is hiding behind them, ready to be discovered.
For me, this work is an expression of the connection between man and nature. The graphic elements and the reduced colors leave room for interpretation and create an atmosphere that inspires reflection. My aim is to make hidden stories visible and to bring contrasts together in a harmonious way.
Gabriele Steinlechner, a masterful painter and digital artist, creates unique works of art from combined photographs and acrylic paintings. Her technique fluently transitions between digital processing and physical execution; she plays with contrasts of light and shadow and combines unexpected details. Steinlechner's masterpieces illustrate the beauty and diversity of merged worlds, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the intertwined lines and discover their own stories within them.
"My paintings are silent spaces. Places where memory, vulnerability, and strength overlap. Between digital construction and painterly gesture, works emerge that make the invisible tangible—as a trace, as a gesture, as a gaze."
