About this artwork
People lying on a ship's bottom: they were rescued from the Mediterranean Sea. Kutz abstracted the motif with many glazed layers of egg tempera and oil painting. It only becomes apparent on closer inspection. The scene is shown four times in order to focus the viewer's gaze on the motif.
