About this artwork
This work bursts forth with passion and pain, reflecting the complex history of struggle and hope in a fractured Mexico. Through rough materials and symbolic colors, I seek to capture the strength and suffering that coexist in a single heartbeat. I wanted this piece to convey impact, intense energy, protest, and cries, filling any space with a powerful and emotive presence, impossible to ignore.
This work was carried out in 2018, a year in which… more than a thousand clandestine graves were being discovered. By 2021, more than 86,000 intentional homicides had been recorded, along with more than 21,000 missing persons. By 2025, it is estimated that more than 130,000 people will be missing. These are painful figures in a country as beautiful as it is starkly contrasting.
This work is dedicated to all those we have lost. To those who have lost their lives to violence. To those whose lives have been cut short by a bullet.
