About this artwork
The title Goddess is meant to be ironic because although Marilyn Monroe was a very beautiful woman she was also a very troubled and flawed human being 'human, all too human'. But she became the personification of what people want to believe in and this was encouraged by the mass media along with Marilyn herself. The frayed edges of the photo are meant to be emblematic of the ephemera of beauty and age.
