About this artwork
I like to play with letters and words that cannot be clearly assigned. By making them unclear, I leave the necessary space for the viewer. With red on black and its deep structures, NINJA embodies an abstract stability that expresses courage and mysticism.
« All of life is like painting an abstract work. One begins, paints over, and makes it new. One is not satisfied and must carry on. »
Gerrit Hodemacher is a painter and textile artist based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally in Cologne, Munich, Hamburg as well as in China, Monaco, Italy, the USA and France. He describes each of his pieces, designs and concepts as the result of snapshots of his inner attitude, longings and interpretations of current events. In particular, the themes of farewell and the positive view of the future come together in his art project "Honour the Sunset". Through his art, Hodemacher strives to reinvent and set new boundaries in each work in order to playfully test the possibilities. For him, art is a special form of freedom - only the end of the canvas sets the limit.
