On the occasion of the hundredth edition of the giro d'italia which started on 5 May 2017 from Alghero, the artist Gianni Mattu has designed and created an artistic installation
the work looks like a large mosaic on the beach of Alghero through the use of 750 umbrellas, 550 sunbeds and deck chairs, colored peaks and buoys, which animated 2700 square meters of beach in an original way.
The image depicts a racing cyclist… moving quickly through time and space thanks to the propulsion of his legs supported by two "modified" wheels.
The rear wheel recalls the "pintadera", an archaeological find in terracotta, used by the Nuragic people as a mark or as a seal to decorate bread.
The front wheel revokes the Sardinian baskets used in feasts and ceremonies with designs and decorations typical of our tradition. homage to the history and craftsmanship of Sardinia, to our past and present.
« My artistic vocation allows me to transform personal energy in the form of works. Art is my best way of expressing myself and what I cannot say with words. »
