About this artwork
With this drawing in pencil, charcoal, and black chalk, I wanted to capture the raw power and fragility of the rhinoceros. Each line emphasizes its intense energy, while the mysterious shadow evokes an inner struggle. This artwork brings a force that is both wild and profound to your space, an invitation to feel the fragility of nature, even when it seems indestructible.
The northern white rhinoceros is a virtually extinct species. Only two females… remain, both unable to carry a pregnancy (one too old and the other unfit).
The issue here is the conflict between the protection of cultural heritage (illustrated by the gold-covered pyramids) and the protection of living beings. The pyramids (thankfully) receive more attention than the rhinoceros, whose imposing size might suggest an illusory invulnerability.
