About this artwork
The artist draws much of her inspiration from the nature that surrounds her. This is a tropical nature & the painting is loosely based on Cordyline & Bromeliad plants together with the jewel-like Hummingbirds that abound. She is constantly fascinated by the amazing acrobatics unique to these tiny birds, that can fly forwards & backwards & upside down. The have a long tongue rolled up in their beak which she has observed when rescuing one such bird…
- she placed the Hummingbird right next to a small dish of sugar water to help it recover, & happily out came the long tongue & the iridescent creature flew off once it had drunk its fill.
The colours used in the painting do not accurately reflect the plants & birds depicted, the idea being to portray tropical flora & fauna in all their splendour using a semi-abstract approach.
