About this artwork
This work is part of a series of paintings begun when the ship Jasmina ran aground in front of my house. Today I live in a place where I see many merchant ships arriving and departing, and every day they inspire emotions, reflections, and fears about what they bring with them to the seas, and when they run aground or are lost in the vastness of the sea.
Giovanni de Michele, an Italian artist born in 1973, creates abstract-figurative works using mixed techniques on various supports such as paper, canvas and wood. His unmistakable technique is based on the subtraction of color, leaving only evanescent traces of what was, evocative of cities, faces, landscapes. Through his works, de Michele wants to arouse emotions, positive or negative, reflecting on the transience and fleeting trace of humanity.
