About this artwork
In this work I have explored the depth of the human soul, using bold oil paints and varnish to create a vibrant texture. The realism of this portrait shows an undisguised, raw emotionality. Every stroke is thought out to captivate the viewer and make them think. I wanted to create a presence that reflects the intensity of our inner experience and at the same time radiates a strength that enlivens any space.

Bas was born in today's Ukraine, and has lived in Germany since 1992. After studying art in Münster and at the acclaimed Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, he exhibits regularly in Germany. Bas deconstructs his first draft by, for example, painting over the painting with another painting and allowing chance to play a certain role.
