About this artwork
In this work, I merged realism with pop art to capture the complexity of human emotions. I use acrylic, graffiti, felt and spray paint to create a tension between softness and raw energy. The touches of hot pink represent fiery passion, intertwined with the controlled chaos of the abstract background. As his self-ascribed moniker Gaffmatt would suggest, artist Matthieu Lainé draws much of his inspiration from graffiti and the world of street art. Using a varying combination of acrylic, spray paint and felt on canvas, Graffmatt creates classically-cool portraits and urban landscapes. His works are detailed, disruptive paintings united by the artist’s signature motifs and color palette.
