About this artwork
"Incantation" is one of a series of observational drawings from live models that I create in group drawing sessions that are held each week in my studio building. My artworks delve into the intricate tapestry of myth, memory, and the enduring power of stories. My friendship with the late writer and mythologist Alex Eliot and his wife Jane Eliot provides a crucial framework for the mythic undertones of my artistic vision.
Alex Eliot was deeply engaged… with myths and their relevance in the modern world. Eliot coined the term "mythosphere" to describe the invisible yet pervasive atmosphere of stories, symbols, and archetypes that surround and shape human experience. This "intellectual and spiritual tissue," as Eliot described it, is the wellspring from which cultures and individuals draw meaning.

Gregg Chadwick is a contemporary American painter who lives and works in Santa Monica. He studied Fine Art at UCLA followed by a master’s degree at NYU, and has been painting ever since. A man of passion, art and engaged purpose, he is currently focused on exploring notions of time, place and memory.
