About this artwork
Plat du Jour is the French term for the special or featured dish of the day on a restaurant menu. My oil on linen painting "Plat du Jour (Saint-Germain-des-Prés)" is set at the café La Palette in Paris, France. An eagle-eyed waitress catches something out of the picture frame. The bartender and another waiter chat in the background in the warm interior of the restaurant which is located near the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and… Georges Braque were regular patrons of this brasserie. In more recent years in Paul Auster's 2009 novel "Invisible" the main character went to La Palette several times.
And in 2012 La Palette's bar room served as a filming location for Taylor Swift’s “Begin Again” music video which I have depicted in a companion painting SOLD on Singulart.
On exhibit in "Under One Roof" - opening February 22, 2026- 2pm - 5pm until May 31, 2026 at the Propeller Gallery in Santa Monica.
